Please read below a letter from the Angel Tree Committee as represented by Ms Mary O'Neill, our Community Resource Teacher. Items 1 and 3 are of particular interest to BIFS families.
Dear Parents, Teacher and Staff Members,
Happy Holidays! We would like to invite families, students, teachers and staff members to participate in our annual holiday Angel Tree. Every year, we work with a number of Busan orphanages and asked children from these orphanages to give us their wishes for a holiday gift. This year, we plan to support 120 children (a record number for BIFS) at 4 different orphanages.
Last week, we began the promotion of the Angel Tree by having Mr. Johnson dress up as a giant elf to spread the word and help kick off the Angel Tree project!
This year there are three ways the BIFS Community may participate in the Angel Tree.
1. Classroom Gifts from the ELC, Elementary, Middle and High School Homerooms:
Students from each class will choose two or three children from the Google Spreadsheet Wish List and prepare a present for them. We suggest that each child give a 10,000 won donation, which will go toward the purchase of the gifts. Their homeroom teacher will then collect the money. The “Classroom Parents” will purchase the gifts, which the classes selected. When the gifts arrive then the children will wrap the gifts and put them underneath the Angel Tree.
Here is the Schedule:
November 24 (Monday) - December 2 (Tuesday)
· Classes select gifts via Google Spreadsheet between November 24 (Monday) - Nov 27 (Thursday) by filling out the yellow shaded boxes on the Spreadsheet
· The ELC and ES will be supporting the Dong San Won Orphanage and the MS and HS will be supporting the Park Ae Won Orphanage
· Homeroom teachers collect donations of 10,000 won to buy gifts before the due date of December 2 (Tueday)
December 3 (Wednesday) to December 10 (Wednesday)
· Classroom Parents buy gifts and deliver these to their respective homerooms
Anytime before December 15th (Monday)
· Classes label, wrap gifts and deliver gifts to the Angel Tree (outside the Main Office) - including a homemade card by your homeroom would also be a wonderful gesture
2. Individual Gifts from Teachers and Staff Members:
We are also aware that many teachers and staff members also enjoy selecting a gift and making a child’s holiday wish come true. If you would like to participate in this way, you can also select a child from the Google Spreadsheet tabs entitled BIFS Community - Isaac House (15 total children) or BIFS Community - Extra Dong San Won Orphanage (13 total children). Also if you want to you can join with others and make a donation to help buy quilts (cost 60,000 won per quilt) for 11 Infants at Heerak won Orphanage.
When you pick a child, it is important that you sign up in the yellow shaded boxes on the Google Spreadsheet. After you sign up and purchase the gift, you can put the wrapped gift with the child’s name on it under the tree. It would be a nice gesture to include a card. If you need help please let us know. Please bring your wrapped gift byDecember 15th (Monday).
3. BIFS Families and Community Members
If your family or members of the community would like to contribute more to support additional children, please contact Mary ONeill ([email protected]) HP: 01025758831.
Thank you for caring and making a child’s wish come true!
