Thank you for joining us for the elementary Parent-Teacher conferences this week. It was an excellent opportunity for us to share information and learn more about your child. If you were unable to attend the conference, please feel free to meet with your child’s teacher at an alternate time that works for you both.
We would like to continue improving our communication and events. We ask that you to take a moment to give us feedback and suggestions for planning next year’s Parent-Teacher Conferences. We value feedback from everyone, even if you were unable to attend. Thank you!

One-Time Trip Permission Slip
Last year, we started using Google forms to send out permission slips for class trips. To lessen the burden of filling out the form repeatedly, we are now sending a One Time Permission Slip for all single-day trips. We will still provide information about each trip before it happens.
Please send the form back to us on or before October 1, 2014.

Parent Coffee, Sept 19
We hosted a Parent Coffee on assessment practices in the elementary division at BIFS. Parents looked at student report card samples, and gave feedback on “What this report tells me,” and “What it doesn’t tell me.” We shared different tools and processes that teachers use when assessing students, and walked through different types of assessment.

Sept. 19 Assembly: To squish or not to squish?
Sue Toms, ES Librarian, read the book Hey, Little Ant by Phillip M. Hoose. This story is about an ant who pleads his case for survival to a boy who was ready to squish it. The story ends with a provocation for the readers: What do you think that Kid should do? Originally composed as a song, the students learned the melody with piano accompaniment from Lars Jefferson, ES Music Teacher.
This book is available at the ES Library. Please visit the ES library to check out this book as well as other literature in our collection.
For more information about the author, Phillip Hoose, here is his website.
