Mr. Quimpo and Mr. Lea Present...
This weekend, Andre Quimpo (ES Art) and Brendan Lea (ES ICT) will be presenting at the EduLAN conference (through KORCOS, the Korean Council of Overseas Schools) in Seoul. Mr. Quimpo presents on using the iPad in art, and Mr. Lea will be presenting on the ins and outs of developing student e-portfolios. We are thrilled to be giving back to the educational community through sharing the expertise of our teachers. Congratulations to both Mr. Quimpo and Mr. Lea on this accomplishment.
Teachers in Training
We have the pleasure of hosting two teachers in training here in the elementary division. In Mr. Schofield’s 3R, Mr. Kester Evans will be spending about 6 months commencing this week. We also have Mr. Alex Hippenhammer joining Ms. Eksteen’s 5R for a second year. Parents with children in these classes will be invited in for an informal meet-and-greet in the near future. Please extend a warm BIFS welcome to Mr. Evans and Mr. Hippenhammer.
Curriculum Documentation
On October 23, the elementary teachers spent the day working in teams documenting details of their curricula on Managebac. The focus was on further aligning to our scope and sequence in the units of inquiry, as well as on documenting ways that we are assessing student need and accomplishment and differentiating the curriculum. It was an excellent opportunity to extend and deepen the work we engaged in during the September and October professional development days.

Visiting Storyteller: Oct 27th to 28th
On Oct 27th and 28th, Tony Wilson from Dream On Productions will be working with our students and teachers to provide educational entertainment through oral storytelling. He will be providing performances (from ELC to Grade 8), student workshops (Gr 6, MHS Drama Club) and teacher workshops with the aim of integrating oral storytelling in the classrooms.
“Tony Wilson is an experienced storyteller who has visited schools around the world. He tells a wide range of traditional and self-penned stories which he links with drama, music and song. He also plays guitar and tenor banjo. As a former teacher himself, he has acquired insight and knowledge with children of all ages, so he is able to tailor his performances to the children's needs, abilities and understanding.”
